Missiles/Tokens

#11
Well, I got the full color sheets done, but they were too large to post. I need to see what I can do to slim it down. Your comment about tracking everyone's torp is a good comment. I think I will do a different background for quick ID. I wanted to do a space back drop, but using a color code would be a lot easier.  This will take a bit, as I am buried at my jobs.

Oh, IIRC, DLT torps were just a different tracking method. I can see about making a variation though. Thoughts? As I do not have my book handy, what Mk's were the DLTs available in?

I had to check the rules just to be sure because yeah, it is reminiscent of a tracking type name...
Directed/Terminal Homer [DTH] (drive 8 while remote, drive bumps up after terminal lock), and Directed Homer [DXH] (remote all the time) are the more common tracking types easily confused with Data Link Terminus [DLT] torps used by UNW.

Tactical Operations Center equipped ships scanning brood ships, drones, or ink pass a number of benefits to DLT torps tracking these scanned entities- like cutting the chance the torp loses tracking if the ship engages a jump pod by half, ignoring the range penalty for targeting drones that have been scanned, etc. Rules As Written, these perks are DLT exclusive.

Of all the types of torps that need a distinctive counter, DLT's only require distinction when Mk.10 armed, non-UNW ships are in a battle with UNW units where scanning is going on and thus can probably just be left out altogether to save space but I thought I'd mention it for the sake of completeness since you asked. It's a bit of a
[Image: VK5pNKU.png] ...on my part.

Of the printed ships that carry the enhanced sensor DLT's (all 'NW' variants/refits):

Mk.10
x15: Hornet
x10: Betafortress, Equalizer, Firebat, Javelin, Praying Mantis, Rattler
x4: Salamander, Thunder Bird
x1: Teal Hawk
Mk30
x 4: Epping

...So mostly just Mk.10's but just to complicate things further- any torpedo type, in theory, can be DLT if UNW refits other ships, so if it were up to me, I'd just scrap the superfluous DLT distinction altogether and let any torp take advantage of TOC scanning for simplicity's sake.
[Once the (fictional) Silent Death 'Star Citizen Clone' funding breaks Kickstarter records, the game code can handle the minutia of whether or not a torp's electronics kit can sync with TOC scans]

I can't change this sig. until I paint a longboat & post pics.

Here is an attempt to make the file with torpedo counters available through an external hosting site.
This file is in a jpg-format. But is prepared in adobe illustrator, so it can be altered to have other letter codes and other MK numbers and other types of torpedoes. I stick them on to LEGO bricks.

I have been busy of late, but needed a break. I have been working on the various counters based on some comments as well as the cool looking versions Hal posted. The torpedoes and missiles will be a little longer, but here are mines and terrain. These markers are 1in x 1in.

Mines - No background: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1kDh-vf...F_dP0mSHqc
Mines - With background: https://drive.google.com/open?id=11WSHyF...u3N_AGEz3G

Asteroids and wormholes - No Background: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1-n_Yuh...6PHn2ysWbk
Asteroids and wormholes - With Background: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1vS6Lrh...7X3vqOSdw1

I would use heavy paper or cardstock. If you use colored paper without a background, you can color co-ordinate per sides.

I will try to get the torps and missiles when I can.  I like the way Hal made each warhead a specific design, so I am going to try and do that for all warheads. the original design was 0.5in x 1in. Is there a different size that is preferred?

Adam, those mines ROCK. I like what you did there, making them look like they're equipped with directional thrusters so each can hold their place in orbit, etc...

Regarding the wormholes, I recommend that you do a Goggle images search using the keyword wormhole. I personally like things to look as close to reality as we can get without actually having to go outside of Earth's orbit...  Big Grin

I looked at Google originally, but was concerned about using something that may have been copyrighted, which is why I made the ones I did.

After a long hard week, I am trying to avoid CAD for a couple days. So I am playing with CorelDraw and trying to better emulate some of the wormholes. I am not happy with these, but maybe you guys would like these better then I do. Thoughts?

Actually, I really like the purple one. My only quibble is whether or not you can do a softer transition from the purple of the wormhole to the surrounding normal space? Otherwise it's got a good, clear look to it that should stand out nicely on a game board/mat.

So, it has been a busy summer for us. Recently moved to Wisconsin for work, and been busy between work and family. I did get to take some time to finish revising some of my artwork for torpedoes and missiles.

I modeled the missiles, torpedoes and mines in CAD, which allowed me to produce a natural looking shadow. I have also produced the sheets with and without background. To do it justice, I did leave a background on the wormholes. The sheets are:
  • Hammerhead Missiles
  • Mines
  • Standard Missiles
  • Terrain (asteroids and wormholes)
  • Torpedoes (Mk10-Mk100)
The torp counters are color coded and labeled. If you laminate the counters, you could write with wet erase marker on the back for target designation. I hope to tackle the YokoShan and ASP warheads this fall-winter.

I have set up a Google Drive for everyone's access. Members are free to use these for personal use only. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1...sp=sharing

What I really do like is how you've made the Warhound class torpedoes look more like Cold War anti-shipping missiles than the Mk.10-50 fighter swatting variety... very cool.
