Kickstarter for Grid Overlay for Battlemats

#1
Sorry if this isn't appropriate but I think this could really be a great thing for SD especially with the prevalence or 3x3 space field maps for other games being easy to get. Its a clear grid patter than you can place over any battle mat to add a hex grid. Right not the KS is for a 1x1 square then a 1x1 hex which would be too small, but if this idea takes off it could be really handy.

Pondering this, I didn't see if this grid overlay was going to be available in any color other than black. Ideally a grid overlay on a black background or starfield image should be a strong yellow or white to be plainly visible IMHO.

Otherwise this would be a very handy tool indeed. Cool

I sent them a message suggesting a white hex overlay for space games.

They replied quite quickly.
Apparently they already have a white paint they like/plan to use for football fields and they asked what hex size I liked, so I thought it sounded pretty positive.

I hadn't gotten back to the Kickstarter to see if they'd updated the campaign yet.

Smile Update: They're currently at $13K in pledges and need to reach $17K before hex grids are available.  At that point, white hexes in 1 inch, 1.25 inch and 1.5 inch are all options.

Just checked it out for a second time --the first time I didn't scroll down far enough to see the hex stretch-goal.

It opens up the range of cheaper vinyl mats in the $30 price point neighborhood (might as well go vinyl as you will be playing on a clear glossy vinyl overlay anyway), but a fair amount of those can be had with grids printed?

At $70 for a 6x4, it would have to see double duty as a rpg miniatures grid or Memoir 44 hex overlay to make me cock an eyebrow. A 3x3 mat is going to feel cramped with anything larger than a 1" grid, but at 1" the conga lines start looking like a crystanium-centipede experiment gone awry if you are using miniatures on bases any larger than pit vipers & spirit riders. Pass.

Looks great for skirmish and role-playing though.

1 inch hexes always feels too tight for me. I need wiggle room in my hexes to accommodate the missiles, torps, drones, etc. that make things interesting in Terran Space. Meanwhile, I am on the case trying to run to ground a quality mat to replace my aging Geo-Hex official Silent Death cloth game mat of 1990s vintage...
