Missiles/Tokens

#1
Being someone late to the game I don't have all the materials from the old starter set. Does anyone have suggestions for good missiles or missile tokens to use?

I use laminated rectangles and write on them with wet erase marker (torps).
I purchased them from Red Shirt Games, but you can make your own.

Create a sheet (full colour, monochrome, your choice) with small squares, one for each torp.  Either indicate the type and size, or leave spaces for it.  Definitely leave a space to indicate the target.  Print and laminate the sheet, then cut out the squares.  You can write on them with wet erase markers and clean them after the game.  Perhaps use colour to make torps from different sides or fighters distinct, or to distinguish plasma or guided from standard.

You can create similar tokens to mark asteroid hexes, although you'll want them to be clear and distinct from torps.

For missiles, the token should be a bit bigger probably and indicate 5 or 10 missiles (and possibly type).  After laminating and cutting them out, use a hole punch to cut a circle from the middle of the token and cut a narrow triangle/pie slice from the edge to the hole.  Ideally, it can be hung like a collar around the neck of the target ship.

Similar to the missiles, the tokens I bought can mark 0 Drive, Pilot Killed, Pilot Dazed, Crew Killed, Drive Sputters, and other conditions.

I also bought some custom plastic Aero tokens (numbered missile markers 1-20 in two colours) to serve a torps.  They're pricier and I ran out in larger games.

Thank you! That's a lot of trial and error you saved me getting started.

A couple of cadillac alternatives to the whole missle and torp marker challenge are Litko Aerosystems acrylic space torpedo markers:

And then there are the missile/torpedo dice from our pal Dean Gundberg over at Star Ranger's Starship Combat News site:

http://dice.star-ranger.com

Hopefully in the semi-near future we will at least be able to return to market missile and torpedo counters similar to what was available in aeons past. Until then these are a nice alternative for getting the job done in addition to the Old School gamer's solution of clever field expedients you Vacuum Vikings are already working out amongst yourselves!

How does this look? Too much ink? I can blank it out some. These would look good if printed on transparency film without the background.

I need to make other markers at some point. These should keep you busy though.

I say they look splendid! Now, I would say that there needs to be more than one sheet, as we're dealing with a number of specialty House torp mixes. I would suggest that a basic "generic" torp counter sheet would have more Mk. 10 torps, and take into account loadouts on Core Ships like the Revenge and the Thunderbird. Ideally, people should be able to use a single sheet to equip a small force of typical Imperial era ships, maybe 300 BPV to 500 BPV if possible.

A sheet of the assorted Warhound torps waould also be in order.

Each House in turn should have a sheet that reflects their particular tech such as ASP having the C-torps and Parasite torps. I also recommend that you use the space taken up by the MX logo for more torps.

Missile swarm counters would also be useful for those who either don't have the plastic 5-shot salvo pieces or counters.

Overall, this is impressive if it can be printed on diecut counter sheet. You could do a duplicate sheet where you have a white background to conserve print ink.

Nice work, Callsign: Stogie! Cool

Thanks boss. BTW, I have a template set up for NB2 when you are ready.

As for individual sheets, what are everybody's thoughts on:
-One sheet of Mk10's
-One sheet of Mk20-30's
-One sheet of Mk40-50's
-One sheet of Mk60-70's
-One sheet of Mk80-100's
-One sheet of C-torps and other torps
-One sheet of each missile type
-One sheet of mines

Offered with background and without. Did I miss any Terran specs?

As for NB items, I have some of the original counters and can re-design for/as part of NB2.

Hi, I have redone the original torpedo markers from the old game. I am printing the counters out and sticking them on lego bricks (2 by 2 flat tiles). With flight stands made from lego, I can stick the torpedo-counters on to their target when they hit. I have not yet had time to do more exotic torpedoes, so for now I am settling with the original torpedo-counters (MK10 to MK50) that came with the old Silent Death game. But it was my plan to make heavier torpedo counters at some stage later on. Unfortunately, it appears I cannot attach a file larger than 500 kB, and you will need the file in at least 3 MB size, to get it in a proper resolution. Do anyone have an advice for posting larger graphic files on the forum?

Looks pretty good, excluding home-brew designs, the escort-class ships thus far are only using 70's & 100's (can't remember what Constellation class carries).

UNW has the DLT torps (and a heck of a lot of them at that) but shouldn't be an issue unless the force is mixed with normal ships AND there is a screening ship(s) [typically Betafortress NW] in the fight to grant the benefits to the DLT's.

The only other issue that came up recently that I would not have thought of is something that the original cardboard chits handled by using several identical sets with varying colored backgrounds: a set of torps for each player. It can (read: did at one point) get confusing distinguishing which players torps are which in the middle of the board and even with numbers printed everyone is scanning their ship displays to sort which marker moves after each target. It was a feature I never knew I missed until the confusion cropped up. Something to consider when printing. I've dubbed it: "Karpav's Seven M's- Multi-colored Markers Minimize Meandering Munition Mishaps Mandate".
(not to be confused with Karpav's Seventeen M's¹: Man, Masada Type 1's Magazine Musters More Mk.10's than Most Military Mobilizations Manage Must Mean Machshava Methodology Maximizes Margins Majorly -Seriously. Seek said station's sheet summarily scrutinizing shell storage size specifications!)
¹ Some dude's Silent Death sophomoric drivel scrupulously designed, superfluously daft.

Compress and link to a file hosting site and hope someone trusts enough to click that ship...
